The DynamicMaps Team has now updated our GML Translator and GML Tiler tools to be OSTN15 compliant!

The DynamicMaps GML Translator is a software solution designed to translate Ordnance Survey MasterMap (OSMM) and OS VectorMap Local into geospatial layers in your spatial database, including Oracle, SQL, and PostGIS Spatial Databases.

The DynamicMaps GML Tiler tool generates Web Map Raster Tiles (WMTS)based on OSMM for display in your Web or Desktop GIS.

With the Ordnance Survey now providing basemapping as a Web Map Tile Service via their OS Maps API

Cadline has now updated our GML Tiler so that the Raster WMTS tiles created use the OSTN15 Transformation logic.

This means that the DynamicMaps GML Tiler will now create OSTN15 compatible tiles, to match with the OS maps API basemapping. For example, below, if we make the DynamicMaps Colour WMTS tiles 50% transparent we can see the boundaries of the GML Tiler WMTS tiles match with the OS Maps API basemapping.

This means that our webGIS – MapThat – can now utilise the OS Maps API for directly sourced OS basemapping,…. and use the DynamicMaps GML Translator and Tiler to render your own set of WMTS tiles.

3 reasons to still use the GML Translator!

1 – The GML Translator tool will ensure you have your own spatial/vector repository of OS Mastermap stored in your own Spatial database. This means you can use your OS MasterMap holding for Snapping, Tracing and for supply into your desktop GIS applications.

2 – The DynamicMaps GML Tiler can also create Mono (Black and White) WMTS raster tiles, which your Planners and Highways Teams always like to see!

3 - The DynamicMaps GML Tiler can also create tiles down to any Zoom Level,… which means the resolution of the WMTS raster tiles is of a superior quality to the current OS Maps API basemapping.

Level 20 OS MAPS API – slight blurry.

Level 20 DynamicMaps GML Tiler - much sharper.

So, even though you can now utilise the OS Maps API basemapping, you can also continue to benefit from the advantages the DynamicMaps GML Translator and Tiler give you!
