Recently I had a question from an AutoCAD customer about the prospect of trimming within or cutting to a polyline or similar object, a bit like a cookie cutter function. I did mention the prospect of using an external AutoLisp routine but of course AutoCAD already has this capability with its suite of Express Tools.

This command is not available from the AutoCAD Express Tools Ribbon or in any pulldown menu, it is a 'hidden' command, which is why many users forget it exists, including me when asked an on-the-spot question!

To execute the command type in EXTRIM, select a polyline, circle, image, text or ellipse as a ‘cutting edge’.

Specify which elements you wish to trim. Elements will be cut according to the direction that is specified i.e. trimmed or cropped as appropriate.
