Question:
How can you add a MapThat Tool to the Main Toolbar?
Answer:
In MapThat it is possible to access some, but not all, of the Tools directly from the Main Toolbar, which is shown to the right of the Project Logo/Name.
Only tools that work on a single click can be added to the Main Toolbar.
For example clicking the Home Button will recentre the map to the start-up location.
Or clicking the Centre Map on Current Location will recentre the map to your current geographic location.
Or choosing the Help button will open the Help options.
However, tools that require more user input such as the Measure Tool, can’t be added to the Main Toolbar as the whole tool needs to be accessed from the Map Tools Left Panel.
If there is a Tool that you would like to add to the Main Toolbar, you can use the MapThat Admin Forms to choose, PER ROLE, which tools to add.
In the MapThat Admin Forms, choose Security > Roles and choose to EDIT the Role you wish to configure e.g. Read Only.
In the Edit Roles page, choose the ROLE TOOLS tab, and if we wish to hide a specific Tool that was previously showing, untick the Show in Ribbon box. In this case we have unticked the HELP TOOL.
Press Save to activate this change.
Now when you login to MapThat as the Read Only User the HELP button is hidden from the Main Toolbar.
Using the ROLE TOOLS – Show in Ribbon tick box you can currently choose to tick (show) or untick (hide) these specific Tools:
- Home
- Map Links – Google Street View
- Map Links – Google Earth
- Centre Map on Current Location
- Clear Map
- Clear ALL Map
- Refresh Map
- Logout
This makes it easy for you to configure Role based MapThat Projects which can expose as many or as few Tools on the Main Toolbar as you wish. For example, for a public MapThat Project, maybe only reveal the Refresh and Home buttons.
