Components with a Reference BOM structure are usually construction elements such as skeleton parts or assemblies and they are treated as if they do not exist (excluded from quantity, mass and volume calculations).

Within drawings, they appear by default with a double dashed chain line and the drawing view may not fully include them:

If needed to have reference components shown as normal, the following settings can be adjusted (Right click a view -> Edit View -> Model state):

  • Hidden line calculation: All bodies
  • Display style/ Line style (for Inventor 2020 and older): Edges as part / As parts.
  • Margin value to be increased as needed so that the view boundary doesn’t cut off referenced component(s) .
