Tagging elements are a key component within Revit in terms of displaying certain data fields like sizes, reference numbers and notes. Previously some tag families behaved differently from others.

Elements such as door, beam and pipe tags could be set to rotate with components, but with other tag types this rotate with component functionality wasn’t available. The annotation would stubbornly remain as ‘right reading’ aspect no matter what option was set.

The rotate with component property was there within previous Revit versions, but it simply didn’t work for every category. This has now been addressed in Revit 2021 with a more consistent behaviour with how a tag orients with respect to its host.

A similar functionality has also been introduced to Section Head objects, this is covered in a separate post.
