Civil 3D - Enter name of drawing to open

Problem:

Recently I encountered an issue where Civil 3D crashed and when it reopened, I had lost the ability to open a drawing without typing the full file destination.

I would navigate to the application menu > open and was confronted by “Enter name of drawing to open <. >: (Fig 1).  

This was immensely frustrating until I found the solution.

Solution:

When the program crashed a variable had been changed and although frustrating at the time, the solution is simple.

Type FILEDIA into the command line and change the variable from 0 to 1 and press enter (Fig 2).

There is no need to restart the program this should fix the issue immediately.
