When checking iProperties for the Area of an assembly, the value displayed is the sum of the areas of the parts it contains.

As this assembly has a portion of contact between 2 surfaces, it should be excluded from the surface Area value.

In order to view the “real” value, the following workaround can be used:

  • Derive the assembly file into an .ipt - when deriving, make sure a single solid body is created!

  • Check the iProperties of the Derived part – it now displays the value of the external area, excluding the portion where the surfaces are in contact with each other.
