QGIS – How do you configure the OSMM Symbols in QGIS?

Question:

I have upgraded QGIS and now when I view OS Mastermap (OSMM) I cannot see the OSMM Symbols. How can I resolve this issue?

Answer:

To apply certain style options to your OS Mastermap (OSMM) layers, such as trees and other vegetation, QGIS uses SVG image files which are referenced by the QML style file applied to your Mastermap layers. The SVG image files are stored in a folder called OSMMSYMBOLS which is referenced in the settings of QGIS.

Having upgraded your QGIS installation, the SVG image files required to render the correct icons, will now be missing and your map may look like the below: 

To resolve this issue you can simply copy the OSMMSYMBOLS folder from your previous QGIS installation into the program files folder for your new QGIS installation.

Firstly, to find the location of where the OSMMSYMBOLS were being read by QGIS, in your previous version of QGIS open Settings > Options > System and read the SVG Paths: 

Now from that location find the OSMMSYMBOLS folder using Windows Explorer and copy and then paste the folder into the corresponding folder in your new QGIS installation e.g.

In your new version of QGIS, ensure in the Settings > Options > System that the SVG Paths is set to the correct location: 

The next time that you open your new QGIS installation you will notice that your OSMM layers will now utilise the SVG icons and display OS Mastermap as required.
