Controlling the Number of Temporary Lines of Text Displayed in the Command Line

On install of AutoCAD the command line by default is not docked and is located at the bottom of the screen, just above the “Model and Layout” tabs as shown Figure 1.

As commands are used the “Command Line” will show several “Temporary Prompt Text Lines” by default the number of lines are set to 3 as shown in Figure 2.

Once the current command has been completed or cancelled, these lines of text will fade and disappear, returning the “Command Line” display back to Figure 1.

The number of displayed “Text Prompt Lines” is controlled by the system variable “CLIPROMPTLINES” which can be set to numerical values between 0 and 50. Figure 3 shows the result by changing the value of the “clipromptlines” to 10.

Note: - This function only works when the command is not docked. If the “Command Line” is docked, the top of the “Command Line” window can be dragged to increase or decrease the number of text lines displayed.
