Revit – Using Sketchup Files in Revit

Are you aware that you can import Sketchup files into Family Templates or Revit Projects? If not, follow the simple process below to discover how.

Create a family in the Family Editor. Select Metric Generic Model.

Once the Family template is open, click Insert tab Import panel (Import CAD).

In the Import CAD Formats dialog, navigate to the folder that contains the SKP file.

Specify the desired import settings.

The following settings are recommended:

  • Colours: Preserve
  • Layers: All
  • Import Units: Auto-Detect
  • Positioning: Auto - Origin to Origin
  • Place at: Level 1 or Ref. Level
  • Orient to View

Click Open, and place in desired location.

Once in your Revit Family, save to your Workstation or Select ‘Load into Project’.
