Revit 2017 - Original Materials and Phase Filters

We were asked would it be possible to keep the original wall material display and just apply a colour to it when applying a phase filter.

The default is to apply a phasing material which overrides the default material with one that appears as a solid fill in Plan View, which can be overridden but will not display the wall components. See Fig 1

The solution to this problem is to open the Phasing dialogue box, select the Graphic Overrides tab and in the Material Column, by new material,

overwrite Phase – New with By Category and the Wall material will appear as normal and you can use the overrides to alter its appearance. i.e. add colour and lineweight. See Figs 2 & 3
