PostGIS – Shapefile Importer Error: Unable to convert data value to UTF-8

How do I resolve the Unable to Convert data value to UTF-8 error message?

Answer

When using the PGAdmin Shapefile Importer tool I receive the following error message – “Unable to convert data value to UTF-8”.

To resolve this edit the import Options and type Latin1 as the DBF file character encoding and press OK. The import will now be successful.
