AutoCAD 2016 – Turn off Parametric Constraints

By John Flanagan

Sometimes you may accidently constrain objects in AutoCAD and then your drawing will behave in a different way.

The frequently asked question below outlines the problem.

Please see below an image relaying to my query.  When hovering over certain lines / entities in a drawing this icon appears next to the cursor.  This is causing a lot of issues and makes the drawings behave in a different way from what I am used to working.  It is quite debilitating.  I don’t know what it is or how to get rid of / switch it off…  Please help!

Causes:

Geometric Constraints are automatically inferred when the CONSTRAINTINFER system variable is set to 1 (ON).

Solution:

To turn off geometric constraints, on the command line in AutoCAD, enter  CONSTRAINTINFER and set the value to 0 (zero) or enterCONSTRAINTSETTINGS and then in the Geometric tab, uncheck the box for "Infer geometric constraints."

To delete geometric constraints, select the objects to remove constraints from and then on the command line, enter the DELCONcommand.

I hope you found this tip useful.
