It’s that time of year again when users receive some mid-term updates to their Autodesk software. Revit 2025.2 has introduced some new features and improvements which should be of interest to most Revit Users.

Fig 1. Revit’s project browser now features a tab environment, useful for large projects!

In terms of core functionality, the new Revit Home page is now enabled by default. Also, the Project Browser now supports tabs which enable users to filter what to display in the browser list. Revit will always show tabs for the 8 frequently used types: All (elements), Views, Legends, Schedules, Sheets, Families, Groups, Links. The tabs for the other types of views (Reports, Panel Schedules, Assemblies etc.) are showed dynamically. Their order follows the order of different types of views in 'All' tab.

Using tabs in Project Browser will help to reduce scrolling and number of mouse clicks required for tasks, especially for large projects.

The manage links dialogue has also been improved by displaying the nine types of file types (Revit models, IFC links, CAD Formats, DWF Markups, Point Clouds, Topography, PDF, Images, and Coordination Model) as groups in a tree structure, counted for an easier management and navigation . These groups can be filtered and searched to see detailed information of each data type on a collapsible side panel on the right-hand side.

Fig 2. Revit’s redesigned file link manager environment.

A row of operation commands at listed at the top of the dialogue box, and dynamically generated by type and status.

It is possible to customize the visibility of each column in the Show Columns list via the cog icon button on the top right of the table. To access the full address of a link, users can now view it from tooltips, and directly copy it from the Saved Path column and paste it elsewhere.

For structural users there are now (finally) length parameter for structural columns and a weight parameter for beams, bracing and columns.

Fig 3. Additional and improved parameters for structural members.

The weight calculation method considers steel members with detailed steel connections. The volume calculation method will consider the fine LOD representation which adds a fillet radius to the geometry.

For steel connections users can use the Break tool when selecting multiple steel elements.

The Break tool in the Modify>Structural Connection panel is available in the ribbon when the selection contains just valid structural connections. Standard connections, custom connection, and parametric cuts can be part of the selection set.

Fig 4. Steel connections continue to be improved.

The analytical model has been improved with the analytical model being better connected to geometry and follows the engineering mind set through rule-based automation logic:

  • Align to levels through vertical adjustment.
  • Align to grids through horizontal adjustment.
  • Align columns and walls top-down across levels.

Analytical elements are connected using object-specific rules when the associated physical elements are connected.

For the MEP users of Electrical discipline there is an improvement for Electrical Systems. These now support the use of connectors in the parent element of nested families.

Fig 5. Revit 2025.2 has also improved its electrics!

Switch circuits now show the correct connection between the lighting fixtures and the nested lighting device. Electrical circuits reference the connector position of nested panels and circuit boundary lines and generated wires reference the connector position within the electrical panel.

The Revit 2025.2 update also provides users with Dynamo 3.2.1 which includes a new homepage experience, the ability to create workspaces based on templates, a suite of panelling nodes, and much more.

All in all, there is quite a lot in this point release. Whilst there are several useful features for structures I would like to see more features for the MEP user. (Trunking, improved switching, linked model display fidelity on shared views etc.) The AutoCAD styled unified file link manager is also a step forward and I think having the tab filter function for the project browser will be useful for all Revit users. Worth checking out and updating to this version if you can.

The update can be installed from the Access App or your  Autodesk Account
