Inventor 2016 - Opening a 3D AutoCAD DWG

Importing AutoCAD solid models is pretty simple, the trick is to ensure that you use the correct options.

From the normal File open dialogue, select the DWG file that you wish to open, but rather than selecting "Open", choose "Options"

In the Options dialogue, choose "Import"

Then Click "Open"

On the next screen, select "Next"

Then check that you are bringing in the layers you need and click "Finish"
