With a lot of users recently upgrading to Windows 8, there have been a number of calls regarding AutoCAD 2013 & 2014 freezing and not responding.
The users have reported that AutoCAD freezes and stops responding when performing commands that use file navigation, mainly open and save.
After some research of similar users, the cause strangely relates to having a smart phone plugged in to the machine! Simply removing the device will return normal operation to AutoCAD.
This problem has been fixed in the SP1 for AutoCAD 2014 available from Autodesk, as stated in the readme file:
