Civil 3D 2015 – Extend Profile Entity

Following on from my recent blog on Converting Free Profile Curves, I came across another good feature that makes designing vertical profiles a lot easier in Civil 3D 2015.

The new feature is shown as new button on the Profile Layout Toolbar (as shown below), called Extend Entity.

How it works.

In the example design below I have located a vertical parabola and the start of the alignment and a 2 point gradient at the end. I then selected Extend Entity and picked both the existing elements.

This shows a dashed line extending the elements to the start or end of the profile view.

It is now much easier to see where to locate my connecting element

In this case I’ve used a Free Vertical Parabola

Note that the extended elements also contain grip edits for ease of editing.
