Inventor 2013 - Using the distance tool when displaying 3D section views

I received a support call from a customer recently who said that he couldn’t get the distance tool to work when interrogating 3D assembly section views … and having tried it myself I had to agree he was right!

The symptoms are as follows … having created your required section view whilst viewing your 3D model, as soon as select the Distance tool from the Inspect Ribbon, the view loses the section view and reverts to the original display.

“ … Well it worked ok in 2012 !”, I heard him remark.
