Inventor 2012 - Link Level Of Detail (LOD)

I always get asked about managing Inventor large assemblies, and a very good productivity tip is to always to use the ‘Level Of Detail’ tools.

There also is an added ‘Productivity Tool’ which helps you quickly Link all assembly and sub-assembly ‘Level Of Details’ together in one go!

Once you have created your LOD’s, select the tool from the Assembly Ribbon, and then pick a ‘commonly named’ LOD that is in your assemblies and sub-assemblies.

A further good tip is to get everyone in your design team to always create a simplified LOD with the same name on ALL assemblies they create. That way, if you are sharing data, you can very quickly get a basic representation of an assembly with great performance!
