Slow AutoCAD Link - 3ds Max

Question

When linking an AutoCAD file into MAX it is taking a very long time (3-5 mins). Why is this and how can I speed this up?

Answer

The reason for this is because of the type of information that is coming over. When bringing a drawing in you should try to avoid blocks, text, dims, and hatch as this are of no use in MAX but do cause problems. It is always good practice to have a ‘MAX’ version of the drawing where elements are taken out and the file is purged.
