Using Cymap as a multi-discipline M&E design tool and avoiding clashes as you design each system can be easier that you think within Cymap. Firstly, you’ll need to be aware that only services that are within the CYC file project are able to be displayed, otherwise they will need to be saved and loaded on the DXF if they had been designed outside of Cymap and additional calculations taken into consideration.
Note: you can’t display any services within the building program, you will need to be in either of the below programs.
1. The 3D viewer (in which you can display either piping systems, public health systems or ducting systems independently).
2. Piping Program
Within the piping program, click on ‘Display’ then ‘Options’ then ‘Show Services’ to show the services in which to display as below:
3. Public Health
4. Ducting
5. Lighting
6. Electrics
The programs numbered above: 3, 4, 5 and 6 have the same process as 2, except for the specific programs tick box, as it will always display the service that you are in. For example, when in public health, you’ll have the option to show services such as piping, lightning, ducting and electrics but all services within public health (such as Hot, Cold and Gas) will be continuously displayed.
The above image shows how placing lights and ducts within the same software program can avoid any clashes further down the project, but also the heat gains from the light fittings will filter into the cooling requirements.
