Having a design program that uses various manufacturer’s components and physical data compiled into databases ensures that customisation can be easily carried out by the software developer or the program user’s themselves.
This article will show how to change one default setting, but hopefully will give an insight to changing any of the 1010 other instances.
The Default settings are contained in the Cymdef.ini file located in the following folder:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Cymap 2018.
You should not need administrator privileges to edit the Cymdef.ini file. If you are unsure what you are doing, then it is suggested that you practice on a colleague’s PC.
Changes to this file are achieved using the “Cymap Defaults” program in the Utilities section.
Clicking on this icon will bring up the following interface;
Select any from the twenty-two available headings, in this case “Build” which holds the default settings for the Building program.
So, if you are based in Scotland but prefer not to be continuously reminded of London, overwrite the location “London” with the probable location of most of your future projects, say Glasgow. N.B. the format and spelling must match exactly what is shown in the Weather database location, shown below. Much easier than building a wall to keep London out.
Drop me an email if you use this advice or if there is something else you would like to see.
