Revit Architecture 2018 – Custom Revit Hatch Patterns (Part 1)

Introduction

Fill / Hatch patterns or Poche patterns are material designations that you’ll find inside of a typical drafting environment. In Revit, they are called Fill Patterns and to modify your fill patterns you can do it either on a project level or on a template level. What this means is that if you do it in a template – that pattern will show up again and again in all your future projects.

Creating Fill Patterns in Revit

To add or change current material designation, do the following:

This will bring up the Fill Patterns dialog box which shows you all the fill patterns available. In the fill patterns dialogue box two different options are available, either a drafting option which is the way this material looks if you take a section through the material or the model pattern which is the way that the material would look in an elevation view, an example of this would be brick. To the right, to create a pattern from scratch - click New to create a new pattern and give it a name.There is an option here that says • Simple

Here you can create a simple line pattern, basically a bunch of repeating parallel or intersecting lines. Here you can adjust the line angle, line spacing and you can even select the crosshatch option. These are the only tools that you can use inside Revit but you can also use an AutoCAD hatch pattern or a pat pattern that works really well specifically for your drafting patterns.
