David Gate

Hi, I’m David Gate, employed by CADline as an applications engineer within the manufacturing team.  My role includes customer training, technical support, consultancy and solution/product demonstrations.

I started my 3D CAD journey when 15 on school work experience at IDEO London. This drove me from an early age to become a design engineer using both my analytical and creative skills, tying these in with my IT skills gained through many summer jobs as IT support.  While studying for my MEng in Mechanical Engineering & Design at Brunel University I learnt and used Pro Engineer and Solidworks. Putting this into use on a year’s industrial placement Hasbro Europe designing toys and board games.

After graduating I spent the next 3 years working as a design engineer using Unigraphics NX and Teamcenter to model and draft nanometre precise components for high energy laser fusion experiments. This included helping my diverse team with unique manufacturing problems by designing fixtures, jigs and equipment to aid the precise production and assembly.

All in all this has given me a nice broad experience within the design and engineering world and the knowledge of many CAD tools available. Always being one of the first to quickly pick up modelling software and techniques I have always mentored and taught people in an informal way, CADline now gives me the opportunity to do this as a career, showcasing my skills and helping training others in the art of 3D CAD.
